Do you know what 3D scan mean?
3D scan means scanning an object in all perspective and as it is 3D, it means combination of height, width and depth.
3D scanned objects can be used in many different ways but it is mostly used in games. You know today’s games graphics look just like real life objects. How do they do that? Well First, they are good in creating 3D models but it takes time and need high skilled workers but other way is to 3D scan an object and simply put it in the game.
Now in the industry they use high end machines which scan an object very accurately and precisely. Those machines costs way too high and normal people cannot afford it. Take FIFA games as an example they 3D scan all players, their movements etc, and the results are seen in the game, the game feels so much alive.

How to scan an object using smartphone
The best app I have used so far is the display.land app. This app lets you 3D scan any object using your smartphone and the main thing is, it is free.
This app uses photogrammetry technology. This technology involves capturing many images of the object from different perspective. How they do it with smartphone? Well, it’s app will use your smartphone’s camera to capture images and will also take plenty of sensor’s data to properly make an accurate 3D scanned object. The app sends this all data to it’s server and then they will make 3D scanned object for you. It will take some time depending upon the data. NOTE:- You need Internet Connection.
Display.Land app
Display.land app is free to download on both ios and android.

After downloading the app you have to sign up and then you will see the above shown screen.
You can view other’s work and as well interact with their work in the app itself. You can also follow someone if you like their work. The + button you are seeing in the image is used to capture the object. You can view or edit your work by clicking on your profile.

When you press + button the above screen will come up. Here you can scan your object by moving your camera and recording in different perspective.
The BEGIN button will start recording. You need to capture till the bar shown on bottom screen is atleast at MIN position, if you want to continue scanning you can by all means but till the bar comes to MAX position. NOTE:- The more you record, the more time it will take time to process but the wait is worth. You can edit your work in app itself, no need for computer.
This a great app if you want to 3D scan any object for free and use it in the game development. Also you need practice to properly scan an object as it looks simple but it’s not, as you need to have proper lighting and you need to capture as slow as possible and in all perspectives. Anyways this app can unlock many horizons.
