As we know the COVID-19 pandemic is growing and hospitals need more medical equipments especially ventilators. To make ventilators easy to build and reduce the cost of manufacturing, manufacturers are starting to make ventilators from Raspberry PI Zero.
What is Raspberry Pi Zero?
Raspberry Pi Zero is a small single board computer that is often used for projects. This board is the smallest board in the Raspberry PI lineup and also the weakest among all models.
The chip used in this board is Broadcom BCM2835 which has speed of 1 GHz. It has 512 MB LPDDR2 RAM. It requires 5V of power to function properly.
The cost of Raspberry Pi Zero is just $5(Rs 382). Can you believe a computer at this prize, that’s the reason this chip is mostly used by students for projects to cut down the cost.
Why it is used in Ventilators?
Manufacturer’s are using this board in ventilators despite the fact that it is the weakest board because the need of ventilator is rising so they have to make ventilators as fast as possible and also as cost efficient as possible to make sure every hospital can afford the ventilator.
Tom’s Hardware has pointed out that raspberry pi is increasing their production of RPI Zero as the demand of this board is rising for making ventilators out of it.
Conclusion
It is great that manufacturers are making effort to make more ventilators which are cheap and fast to make.
Some people has even made their own devices to help people in this pandemic.
One child has made a contactless door bell that rings the door bell when you go near the door. One child has even made a neck band which will tell you that you are in safe distance to other people or not.
Government is also doing their best to use the technology. Like Arogya Setu app which tells you whether the person you have crossed has symtoms or not.
